For some photographers, our workshop schedule may not fit your needs, so perhaps custom photography tours are the answer! You pick the number of days, locations, and/or subjects and I will help you find just the right place to capture the images you desire. Our Ram Rebel pickup has plenty of room for up to three (3) photographers with gear. If you have a large group (4 to 8) contact me for group rates and coordinating transportation. We can recommend a special place to stay, great local eateries, and include instruction on post processing your images. Tour and workshops dates area subject to availability.

Custom Photography Tours/Workshops

No minimum/Maximum of 10 photographers
Landscape Photography Tours/Workshops – recommended areas include Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park area, Marfa/Fort Davis area, Marathon area, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park (additional fees)
Birds/Wildlife Photography Tours/Workshops – recommended areas include Big Bend National Park, Fort Davis/Marfa area, Lake Balmorhea area, Marathon area, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park (additional fees)
Macro Photography Tours/Workshops – recommended areas include Big Bend National Park, Fort Davis/Marfa area, Lake Balmorhea area, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
Night Sky Photography Tours/Workshops – recommended areas include Big Bend National Park, Fort Davis/Marfa area, Big Bend Ranch State Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park
You may combine landscape, birds/wildlife, and macro interests into one tour or workshop. Night sky photography would be an add-on to any of those genres.

Half or Full Day Custom Photography Tours & Workshops

Half – Day & Full Day Landscape/Birds/Wildlife/Macro Tours & Workshops

Big Bend National Park – Due to the cost of fuel and doing business in the national park, I am only offering full day photography workshops in the park area. If you book more than one full day, then you can add 1/2 days. So, if you book a full day, you can add a 1/2 day to the tour or workshop. If you book three (3) full days, you get the 3rd day 1/2 price.

Fort Davis/Marfa Area – I offer both 1/2 and full day photography tours and workshops. Book three (3) full days and the third day is 1/2 price.

Lake Balmorhea Area – I offer both 1/2 and full day photography tours and workshops. Book three (3) full days and the third day is 1/2 price.

Marathon Area – Due to the cost of fuel and increased business costs, I am only offering full day photography workshops in the Marathon area. If you book more than one full day, then you can add 1/2 days. So, if you book a full day, you can add a 1/2 day to the tour or workshop. If you book three (3) full days, you get the 3rd day 1/2 price.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park – Due to the cost of fuel and doing business in the national park, I am only offering a minimum of two (2) full day photography workshops in the park area. If you book two (2) full days, then you can add 1/2 days. So, if you book two (2) full days, you can add a 1/2 day to the tour or workshop. If you book three (3) full days, you get the 3rd day 1/2 price. For tours or workshops in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, you are responsible for my daily fee plus actual costs on fuel, lodging, and meals.

The private fee ensures no other photographers will be added to your date(s). If you book a regular rate, other photographers may be added to your tour or workshop if they are interested in photographing the same genre of photography as you. Whoever books first, determines the genre of photography for that day.

The fee for the tours/workshops includes:

Guide & teaching services
Daily transportation for up to 3 photographers from our meeting point to our shooting destination and return

The fee for the tours/workshops does not include:

Lodging
Meals
Transportation to initial meetup location
Gratuities

Safety

All passengers in the vehicle must wear their seat belts at all times and equipment must be safely stored or held. The desert has a plethora of inhabitants and opportunities for you to be harmed. It is imperative that you follow all safety guidelines and instructions so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable workshop.

Conditions & Terms

We reserve the right to make changes to the schedule and/or dates if need be. We are not responsible for bad weather, flight delays or cancellations. We are also not responsible for lost or stolen items, injuries, sickness, death or damages to personal equipment and loss of personal travel expense. Failure to comply with rules, regulations or unacceptable/objectionable behavior may result in you being removed from the tour or workshop with no refund. Registering for a tour or workshop means you agree to these conditions and terms.

Non-Photography Spouses/Partners

Non-photography friends or relatives are charged the birding rate if space is available on the tour. If I can fill up the tour with photographers, they would need to pay the full rate,

Lodging

While lodging is not included in the fee for the tours and workshops, I can recommend specific locations; however, it is up to you to secure your lodging. When doing workshops for Guadalupe Mountains National Park, you will be responsible for my lodging at Holiday Inn Express in either Van Horn or Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Meals

The tour and workshop fee doesn’t include meals, but we will stop in a town for lunch (or in a national park concession restaurant) to eat and for a mid-day break.

Camera Gear

For optimal shooting experiences and preparedness, I recommend the following camera gear as a minimum:

Mirrorless or DSLR camera (2 bodies is better than one as there is nowhere out here to get one if your’s breaks)
Sturdy tripod with Gimbal head for large lenses or ball head for smaller
Super telephoto lens of at least 400mm or longer for wildlife
Medium telephoto lens for long lens landscapes
Wide angle lenses for landscapes
Macro lens if you are interested in macro subjects
Fast wide angle lenses (F2.8 or faster) for night sky photography
Wireless or wired remote shutter control or intervalometer
Multiple batteries and memory cards

The following is not required, but can be used:

Off-camera flash bracket
Better Beamer to project flash
Flash

Non-Camera Gear

I would also recommend you have the following non-camera gear with you:

Hat
Sturdy hiking shoes or boots
Long pants (the desert is not the place for shorts)
Water Bottle
